Jibril, also spelled Jibril or Jibril in Islam, is the archangel who acts as a mediator between God and man and as a bearer of revelation to the prophets, especially Muhammad. Gabriel is the counterpart of Jibril in biblical literature. Muhammad initially did not know that Gabriel was his mediator, and his name is mentioned only three times in the Qur'an.
